Crank it up

I'm having a cranky day, one of those days in which everything annoys me. Thankfully for those around me, it's been a while since my last cranky day. Things that are making me cranky:

1. Being called by one of my colleagues at 11 a.m. this morning to ask if they could have my afternoon off (which was today). Seems the house closing they were supposed to attend yesterday got moved to today. Well, sorry. . . but no. Call me last night, and maybe I can help you. But don't expect me to change my afternoon's plans at the last second for your "emergency" that you've known about since yesterday. Annoying.

2. Getting teased for over a week now because I withdrew from the San Antonio 1/2 Marathon. Why, you ask? (*Sigh.*) Because I forgot my shoes, and didn't realize it until it was too late to go buy another set (which probably wouldn't have been a good idea anyway). Yes, I know. It takes a special kind of stupid to forget to take one's running shoes to a run. I get it. It's funny. But rather than just tell everyone, my friends who did run it keep telling everyone else to come ask me about it. After repeating myself thirty times, it's not really seeming all that amusing anymore.

3. People who are chronically late. Annoying.

4. Christmas shopping. Bah humbug. Christmas isn't nearly as much fun since I found out that I'm Santa Claus.

5. Really, why IS Marie Osmond still on Dancing with the Stars? I mean, okay, she's an entertainer I guess, but she's certainly not the best dancer. If she wins it I may never watch that show again.

6. People who are delusional and/or in denial about their health. (If you're reading this for the first time, I work in healthcare.) Don't get me wrong, my health habits are not perfect. But let's call a spade a spade, shall we? If you smoke only when you drink, but you drink a few nights a week, then from a health standpoint, you are a smoker. Deal with it. If you were prescribed anti-diabetic meds of any type, you are diabetic. Deal with it. If your body mass index is greater than 30, or if you are 35 or more pounds over your ideal body weight, you are not big-boned, you are obese. Deal with it.

That's enough cranky for today, don't you think? Of course, channeling Scarlett O'Hara here--tomorrow's another day. . . .

Aaaahhhhhff Season

Ten things I really like this week:

1. Baseball season is over!

2. 103 days until pitchers and catchers report!

3. The new show on NBC called Life. I started watching it because of Damian Lewis (the actor who played Sgt. Winters in Band of Brothers) but now I am completely captivated by each of the characters and the performances.

4. Learning East Coast Swing. Great work-out!

5. Being on vacation and sleeping late!

6. Chi McBride in Pushing Daisies. I had no idea the guy could be so laugh-out-loud funny!

7. Hanging out with my brother this weekend in the woods near New Braunfels. (Some call it hunting. I call it sitting in the woods with a gun. Seems more accurate.)

8. My new running shoes.

9. Cool enough weather to start brewing beer again.

10. Upcoming vacation plans to Hilton Head and NYC. Woo!
